The 4th annual VIRI meeting took place on 4-5 October 2018 in Szeged, Hungary. The event was hosted by the First Hungarian Responsible Innovation Association. The small gathering included 14 participants from Australia, the UK, the US, and throughout Europe.

This year's VIRI was held in Tempe Arizona between May 15 and 16 to coincide with the Governance of Emerging Technologies Conference that followed in Phoenix. The Foundation was represented by Board Member Ottavia Bassetti and Foreign Correspondent Jonny Hankins, who attended both events offering readers the following short first hand report on the proceedings and experience.

VIRI Convenes for Third Annual Meeting

Researchers in Responsible Innovation from 18 partner institutions across 13 countries met May 15-16, 2017 at ASU for VIRI's third annual meeting. Early career researchers had an opportunity to present their work and conduct interactive exercises to an international audience of colleagues. The group discussed prospects for future international collaboration and how to build on the work of VIRI going forward.

This week's Science Nation video, “Helping nanotechnology work for everyone,” is about the Center for Nanotechnology in Society at Arizona State University. The video covers a selection of CNS's efforts, research, and collaborations, including the Futurescape City Tours, the Phoenix 2050 Design Studio, Nano Around the World card game and the Life Cycle Assessment for Responsible Innovation research and workshop, and highlights CNS's efforts to find best efforts to incorporate responsible innovation practices into the development and deployment of nanotechnology and other emerging technologies.

A new article, “ASU’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society Creates Strong, Responsible Outcomes,” has been published in 3DInCities. Dave Guston, founding director of the new school and director of VIRI, discusses the school’s origins and goals.

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) hosted the Fourth International Conference on Responsible Innovation in The Hague, Netherlands 24 – 25 August 2015, and Jonny Hankins of the Bassetti Foundation posted a blog about the event.

VIRI Member David Guston (CNS-ASU) is founding director of the new School for the Future of Innovation in Society at ASU. The school will teach students how to look at innovation from an anticipatory perspective.
