Fraunhofer ISI is one of Europe’s leading Innovation Policy and Foresight research centres with a strong legacy in the field of innovation research. In recent years, the institute has participated in and led numerous projects developing and operationalising RRI as a new and integrative approach in the governance of science, technology and innovation. Fraunhofer ISI has been successful in winning major EU-funded projects such as Res-AGorA (FP7), JERRI and EFFORTI (both H2020). Res-AGorA's principal investigator Ralf Lindner has contributed to the project becoming one of the first and leading conceptual cornerstones of RRI and its governance in Europe. In a recent study on the European RRI research landscape, Fraunhofer ISI was ranked among the top five institutions in the field (Timmermans 2017). In addition to Fraunhofer ISI’s general expertise in the analysis, evaluation and design of national and European research and innovation funding programmes, it can provide easy access to the other 68 Fraunhofer institutes active in a broad range of techno-scientific fields and their applied research, long-standing experience in analyzing dynamic innovation processes and patterns, and expertise in providing research-based policy advice to policy-makers at regional, national and European levels.

Dr. Ralf Lindner is Coordinator for Technology Assessment and Governance at Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI.
